Identifying a Marketing Message That Works

October 5th, 2009 — 4:33am

We’re creative professionals but let’s face it, we’re also marketers. Yeah, I know, that sucks. We all look at our stuff and say, “Hey, this should be good enough to get me the gig.” In a perfect world, that would be the case. But we all know that the only thing perfect in this world is the world’s track record for not being perfect.

So yes, like it or not, a successful freelancing career entails not only having the best portfolio and spot-on skills. It’s also about conveying the right message so that potential clients will give you more than a sideways glance.

If you want to get hired, you have to learn how to sell yourself . . . not just your latest wicked mad creation. What makes you different from everyone else out there doing the exact same thing as you? What is your unique selling proposition that will push clients to choose you and not your competition?

This article by Anton Pearce from SiteProNews offers a great perspective on how to get started on self-branding.
